Dario Gamboni, Ph.D., is Professor of Art History (Modern and Contemporary Art) at the University of Amsterdam. He has taught previously at the University of Lyon-II and at Case Western Reserve University, and in 1996 was the Ailsa Mellon Bruce Fellow at the Center of Advanced Study in the Visual Arts, Washington. His most recent publication is Potential Images: Ambiguity and Indeterminacy in Modern Art (London, 2002). Other publications include: La plume et le pinceau. Odilon Redon et la littérature (Paris, 1989); The Destruction of Art. Iconoclasm and Vandalism since the French Revolution (New Haven and London, 1997); and Crises de l'image religieuse / Krisen religiöser Kunst, ed. with Olivier Christin (Paris, 2000).
