Edouard Vuillard's participation in the decoration of S. Bing's 1895 Maison de l'Art Nouveau was ensured by the generous patronage of the critic Thadée Natanson, whose aesthetic tastes and enthusiasms were incorporated by Vuillard into his harmonious ensemble.
